Yaya Touré to announce his future plans in the next 48 hours – City Watch
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré is mulling over a new contract offer from the club and will decide whether or not to sign the deal in the next 48 hours, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Touré revealed earlier this week that he would be willing to pay a significant pay cut in order to remain at the club and the deal that has been offered will reportedly see his salary scraped in favour of a bonus-related agreement.
The 34-year-old earned the chance to stay at the Etihad for another year after impressing manager Pep Guardiola since being brought back into the fold in November. Previously, a strained relationship from their time at Barcelona, as well as issues with comments made by troublesome agent Dimitri Seluk, had resulted in Touré being omitted from the first team.
Ilkay Gundogan’s long-term injury meant that the Ivorian was awarded an extended run in the starting line-up, which saw Touré prove to Guardiola that he is capable of playing in the Spaniard’s system, bagging seven goals from a deeper role since his return.
If he chooses to remain at City, next season is likely to see Touré play a reduced role, with speculation linking a new central midfielder to the club as part of a £300m squad overhaul.
