Spanish journalist: Chelsea want to sign Sergio Agüero and Pep Guardiola has approved the deal – City Watch
It’s been a while since we’ve had a truly crazy Manchester City rumour, but one today, broken by a well-known Spanish journalist, is sure to get people talking.
Manu Sainz, who works for AS, Cadena SER and El Chiringuito TV in Spain has tweeted this afternoon: “Chelsea want to sign Kun Agüero and Pep Guardiola has already approved the operation.”
Me cuentan que el Chelsea quiere al Kun Agüero. Guardiola ya habría dado el ok a la operación…

This would be one of the biggest deals of the summer, perhaps one of the biggest in Premier League history were it to go down. But logically, Manchester City would have to be crazy – or have something huge lined up – to sanction the sale of a club icon like Agüero.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in his end of season interview, “I’ve read a lot about the speculation and it’s ridiculous. Sergio Agüero is one of the best players in the world and we are a team that aspires to win in every competition we compete in. Having Sergio Agüero as part of the squad is an absolute must and it has never been in doubt.”
Chelsea are in search of an elite striker having missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United recently, and have been linked with the likes of Álvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang since missing out on Lukaku.
Could they make a move for Agüero? Quite possibly. Will City sell Agüero? Most probably not. Even so, a rumour like this is sure to cause a buzz and expect it to appear in all the newspapers tomorrow.
