Manchester City winger sent back to the Etihad six months early by loan club – City Watch
FC Groningen are sending Mexican prospect Uriel Antuna back to Manchester City six months before the end of a two-year loan deal.
The 21-year-old, signed in 2017 by City from Santos Laguna in his homeland, was dispatched to Groningen for two seasons but has found starts hard to come by. He has made 9 Eredivisie appearances this term, but averages just 34 minutes per appearance.
“Antuna’s future is not in Groningen,” said sporting director Hans Nijland.
Ron Jans, the club’s sports manager, backed that up in an interview with RTV Noord, saying: “It is better that Antuna starts playing football again.”
A Mexico under-21 international, Antuna was more of a City Football Group investment than a signing for Manchester City’s future, but is on the books of the English club who must now decided the winger’s next step.
