Manchester City starlet holds talks with Ligue 1 side Nice over loan deal – City Watch
Patrick Roberts has held talks with Ligue 1 side Nice over a potential loan move to the French Riviera next season, according to an exclusive report by The Sun.
England under-20 international Roberts impressed during an extended loan spell at Celtic and that has led to a huge amount of interest from clubs across the continent wanting to recruit him. Bundesliga sides Hoffenheim and Schalke are two examples of the numerous clubs that would love to add the skillful winger to their ranks.
And after their third-placed finish in Ligue 1 this season, Lucien Favre’s Nice would like to give him experience in a competitive league, which could benefit them by bolstering their squad, the player, and in the long run Manchester City who are hopeful that Roberts can be part of the first-team squad.
Newly-promoted Premier League side Huddersfield Town have also made a loan enquiry for Roberts, ESPN FC reports.
A decision on Roberts’ future is expected to be delayed until Pep Guardiola assesses him, potentially during the pre-season tour of America. Celtic were reported to be in ‘advanced talks’ over a permanent deal for Roberts, but their £5 million offer was insultingly low for a talented young English prospect who could be worth so much more in the years to come.
