Manchester City offer for 19-year-old wonderkid just €2m off club’s asking price – City Watch
Manchester City are just €2million away from landing Turkey winger Cengiz Ünder from Başakşehir, with details of yesterday’s four-hour meeting for the player surfacing.
Several Turkish media outlets including NTV Spor report that the City delegation in Istanbul offered €8million (£7million) plus a 20 per cent sell-on clause for the 19-year-old sensation during yesterday’s lengthy discussion.
Başakşehir rejected the initial offer for Ünder, wanting €10million (£8.8million) for arguably the country’s best prospect since Enes Ünal, the last player City plundered the Turkish market for.
The youngster has been compared to Paulo Dybala and has attracted interest from neighbours Manchester United and Tottenham, but it is City who have made the biggest moves to snap him up.
With just €2million between valuations, this appears to be a deal that City can get across the lines, with Ünder and his representatives thought to be keen on a transfer to a Premier League club.
Ünder made 32 league appearances for Başakşehir last season, scoring 7 goals and assisting 5. If Ünder was to arrive, a work permit would be unlikely and he would probably be loaned to a club on the continent.
