Manchester City midfielder flies to Dubai to finalise move to UAE side Al Wasl – City Watch
Manchester City-owned midfielder Anthony Cáceres is set to join UAE side Al Wasl after one and a half years on loan at sister club Melbourne City.
Several Australian newspapers, including The Age and The Australian, report that the A-League is set to lose 24-year-old Cáceres, one of the most talented young players in Australia, after he became frustrated by a lack of game time. Melbourne’s signing of Stefan Mauk and their pursuit of James Troisi have led to the former Central Coast Mariners midfielder deciding on a move.
Al Wasl’s Argentine coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena, who like Cáceres has Uruguayan heritage, recently called the player and convinced him to move to Al Wasl, a club previously coached by the legendary Diego Maradona.
Manchester City paid around £145,000 to sign Cáceres from the Central Coast Mariners in January 2016, instantly loaning him to Melbourne City, where he has played ever since.
Cáceres’ move to Dubai-based Al Wasl will reportedly be a permanent transfer, so City can expect a transfer fee for a player who is under contract until 2018.
