Manchester City conclude £360,000 deal for Shamrock Rovers starlet Gavin Bazunu – City Watch
Manchester City have struck a deal to sign Irish goalkeeping sensation Gavin Bazunu from Shamrock Rovers next summer after concluding negotiations on Friday.
City will pay an initial €400,000 (£360,000) for the 16-year-old, who is already a first-teamer for Shamrock Rovers and has played in the Europa League. That fee will rise if he reaches City’s first team or goes on to represent Ireland at senior level.
Bazunu broke into the Shamrock Rovers first team at the start of July, keeping four clean sheets in a row, and will head to Manchester next summer after completing his Leaving Certificate.
According to The Times, City finished the deal with a Rovers delegation on Friday and Bazunu attended the 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
Bazunu met Pep Guardiola, who he could one day work with should he progress from the under-18s – where he is expected to start – to the first team.
Tottenham and Norwich City also made offers for the young Dubliner, but he will be heading to Manchester City’s state-of-the-art CFA in 2019.
