La Liga club initiate talks to sign Manchester City playmaker David Silva – report – City Watch
David Silva has always said that when he finally returns to Spain, his ambition would not be to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, but rather Las Palmas in his native Gran Canaria.
“My ultimate ambition to play for Las Palmas. People say I should go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, but my team is Las Palmas,” Silva said during an interview in 2015, and according to a report in Spain, he may get his wish in a couple of years.
El Gol Digital reports that the La Liga side have initiated talks about the possibility of signing Silva when his Manchester City contract expires in 2019, at which point he will be 33 years of age.
Silva has rejected offers to return to Spain in the past, but at that point of his career, a spell with Las Palmas could interest him, although it is possible that ‘El Mago’ will still be playing at something close to the high level we see week in, week out at the Etihad.
But El Gol Digital claims that talks have taken place and Silva is open to a move to the Estadio Gran Canaria in 2019. For their part, City would likely honour Silva’s wishes for a return home should he decide on it after years of great service to the English club.
It would be a difficult goodbye, but with the acquisition of Bernardo Silva and the promise of Phil Foden, City could be in a position by 2019 to let the great David Silva return home to fulfill his ambition of seeing out his career in Gran Canaria.
For now, City fans can enjoy the talent and magic of David Silva for at least two more seasons.
