German clubs ready to pounce as Manchester City starlet rejects new contract – report – City Watch
Manchester City risk losing another of their excellent young prospects after Wales winger Rabbi Matondo reportedly turned down the club’s offer of a new contract.
The 18-year-old, who is said to be the fastest player at the club (yes, even faster than Leroy Sané!), recently won his first senior cap for Wales after being called up by Ryan Giggs and has impressed at youth level for City.
Pep Guardiola has involved Matondo in first-team training and is keen to hold on to him, but according to The Sun, the player has rejected a new deal and that could be bad news for the Premier League champions.
City have seen some of their brightest prospects, namely Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz, quit the club for Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid respectively. Matondo has been compared to Sancho and is considered another major prospect.
Luckily for City, there is plenty of time to try and convince Matondo that his future lies at the Etihad Stadium with the pacy winger having a full season remaining on his current deal.
German clubs Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have all scouted the teenager and any one of them could make an approach with the promise of first team football. The Bundesliga is becoming an appealing destination for young English players due to their rich culture of developing starlets.
