From Spain: La Liga club meet with Manchester City chiefs for winger and are willing to wait – City Watch

Girona FC continue to press Manchester City for Spanish wonderkid Brahim Díaz on loan, and while Blues bosses are positive to the idea, the player himself isn’t so convinced.

Brahim and his representatives are in disagreement with City chiefs about what the next step of his career should be, with the teenager eager to earn a place in Pep Guardiola’s first team, but City believing gaining experience out on loan would benefit him.

And according to AS, Girona have accelerated efforts to sign Brahim on loan during their stay at the City Football Academy, where they are preparing for the new La Liga season. Representatives of the Catalan club have met Man City chiefs to inform them that they would like to have Brahim this coming season.

Unlike several loanees last season, such as Douglas Luiz and Marlos Moreno, the impression from Spain is that Brahim, like Pablo Maffeo was, would be counted on as a key player and play regularly. Even so, he is, for now at least, resisting a move to the Estadi Montilivi, where he would be coached by former Barcelona assistant Eusebio Sacristán.

Girona are so enamoured by Brahim though, and certain he would improve the quality of their squad, that they are willing to wait until the end of the transfer window for a final answer. Though the teenager wants to stay at City, he may be more pragmatic by the end of the window if his prospects of regular game time don’t look good.

City have a wealth of wide talent on the books and the club-record signing of Riyad Mahrez will make it even more challenging for Díaz to win minutes on the pitch outside of domestic cup competitions.

With Brahim into the last 12 months of his deal and yet to sign fresh terms though, Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain will need to convince him that they have a clear pathway for his future, or could risk losing him when his contract expires in a year’s time.
