Four of Manchester City’s bright young prospects have been named on the initial 100-strong list of candidates for the 16th Golden Boy award.

The Golden Boy award, established by Tuttosport in 2003, recognises the best young player of the year and includes votes from leading European publiciations such as Bild (Germany), Blick (Switzerland), A Bola (Portugal), l’Équipe (France), France Football (France), Marca (Spain), Mundo Deportivo (Spain), Ta Nea (Greece), Sport Express (Russia), De Telegraaf (Netherlands), and The Times (United Kingdom).

And this year’s initial list of 100, which will be progressively cut by 20 each month until the final 20 emerge, features Brahim Diaz, Phil Foden, Lukas Nmecha and Manu Garcia of Manchester City.

The teenage trio all played games for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City first team last season, with Foden and Brahim featuring enough in the Premier League to earn winners’ medals. Garcia spent the campaign on loan at NAC Breda, making a big impression.

Past winners of the award include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Isco, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and the most recent, Kylian Mbappé.
