Official: Manchester City sign England under-16 starlet Ben Knight for an initial £700,000 – City Watch
Manchester City have completed the signing of highly-rated 16-year-old attacker Ben Knight from Ipswich Town for a reported fee of £700,000 that could rise to around £1million with add-ons.
The youngster announced his move on Instagram, expressing his ‘delight’ at joining the Premier League champions.
City had to see off a late attempt from Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to land the England youth international, who had also been tracked by Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco.
First linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in 2016, Knight has been described as technically ‘exceptional’ and has been compared to Lionel Messi in terms of his ability and stature.
