High-ranking officials from La Liga side Valencia flew to Manchester on a private plane at 7:30am today, according to Superdeporte and Plaza Deportiva.

Valencia president Layhoon, future president Anil Murthy, general director Mateu Alemany and sports director José Ramón Alesanco were scheduled to arrive in Manchester to meet with Man City bosses and discuss a permanent deal for 26-year-old defender Eliaquim Mangala.

The club’s option to buy Mangala following his loan spell at the Mestalla recently expired and most signs pointed to the French international moving elsewhere this summer, with City putting him up for sale.

However, the Valencia-based newspaper have information that Los Che bigwigs are in town to try and thrash out a cut-price deal with Manchester City bosses. Mangala’s agent, the renowned Jorge Mendes, convinced the player to reject several offers for Valencia last summer, and he will play a key role in negotiations.

Manchester City want at least €18 million for Mangala after his impressive season in La Liga, but Valencia do not want to pay that amount and are hoping an offer between €12 million and €15 million will be enough to convince City.

Valencia also want Mangala to lower his salary in exchange for a long-term contract that would last four or five seasons. They know this deal will be difficult to pull off, but are determined to try and keep a player who emerged as a leader for the team in what was a difficult season.
