The 23-year-old had been linked with Galatasaray, Celtic and Torino, the first two having previously hosted Denayer on loan, but Lyon revived their former interest in the versatile defender and after two days of negotiations struck a deal.

The deal for Denayer is worth €10million (£9million), the price-tag City set at the beginning of the summer. Lyon will initially pay €6.5million with a further €3.5million to follow in add-ons.

Jason will earn a salary of €2million net per year at the Groupama Stadium.

Denayer never made a competitive first team appearance for City, going out on loan first time, and only ever appeared in friendly matches despite winning eight caps for Belgium.
