Newcastle in pole position for outgoing Manchester City winger as dream move stalls – report – City Watch

City Watch

When Jesus Navas turned down a new contract offer from Manchester City, everyone assumed it was to see out his dream of returning home to Sevilla to end his career at his beloved club.

But after many reports of the 31-year-old free agent being close to signing for his former club, he remains on the market, with reports suggesting that he feels insulted by their salary offer of £1.3million a year.

Enter Newcastle. The newly-promoted Premier League side have shown interest in several current or former Man City stars this summer, and according to the Sunday People are now in pole position to land Navas.

Sevilla have set a deadline of next Sunday for their prodigal son to decide on a move home, alerting Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez who is a fan of the winger. And Newcastle have put forward a proposal to Navas’ agent to prolong his stay in English football.

If City’s move for Dani Alves does collapse, with PSG said to have hijacked the deal, perhaps Pep will pick up the phone and give Jesus a call. The City boss had wanted Navas to stick around as a back-up right-back to Kyle Walker, who City remain locked in talks with Spurs about signing.

Newcastle are also showing interest in City goalkeeper Joe Hart and could have a free run at him with West Ham cooling their interest in England’s number one.
