Monaco reject opening offer from Manchester City for Benjamin Mendy – report – City Watch
Monaco have rejected an initial bid from Manchester City for left-back Benjamin Mendy, the Telegraph reports this evening.
The fee offered by City isn’t known but given Monaco value the 22-year-old at £40 million, it is expected to be less than that. Monaco are prepared to sell Mendy, who is thought to want a move to the Etihad, but only if their valuation is met.
Despite having a bid rejected, City are expected to return with a revised offer closer to what Monaco are asking, meaning this deal is still very much alive.
The news from the Telegraph completely contradicts reports from recent days in France, claiming that a £39.8 million bid has already been accepted, along with personal terms that will see the player earn around £100,000-a-week.
Whichever story is true, the explosive left-back is clearly Pep Guardiola’s main target now for the position and chances are an agreement will be struck sooner or later.
