Manchester City’s position on Pablo Maffeo revealed ahead of next season – City Watch

City Watch

Manchester City have no immediate plans to sell promising right-back, Pablo Maffeo, after an impressive season on loan at Girona FC, ElDesmarque Valencia reports.

Maffeo, 20, has been the standout performer of City’s loan crew at Girona, making 30 appearances in La Liga this season, and winning plaudits for his individual performances against the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Valencia, one of the clubs with an interest in Maffeo as they plan for next season, recently met with three agents from Pere Guardiola’s Media Base Sports, who represent Maffeo. The main objective was to deal with the contract renewal of Gonzalo Villar, but Maffeo has been sounded out several times by Valencia and may have been discussed.

City do not want to sell one of their finest prospects though, and have no plans as it stands to do so. If they were to sell him, it would be for the sort of fee they couldn’t refuse, but the club see Maffeo as one for the future despite the huge outlay on full-backs.

Maffeo will only have a year remaining on his contract from June, but City are relaxed about the situation and believe there will be no complications in getting the Spain under-21 international to sign new terms due to good relations between the club and Pere Guardiola, who co-invested in Girona with the CFG.

With many of City’s big names heading to the World Cup, Maffeo is likely to be involved in Pep Guardiola’s pre-season plans when the Blues head to America for the International Champions Cup for games against Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

And given how highly he is thought of at the Etihad, Pablo seems to stand a good chance of working his way into next season’s plans.
