It’s that time of year again when the back pages are loaded with transfer rumours – some believable, some not so believable, and some…

The back page of Monday’s Daily Star has one that may not seem believable, but after Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said “any additions have to improve the squad” in his end-of-season interview, the name on this back page is one of the few that springs to mind as being able to do that.

According to Jeremy Cross, Chief Sports Writer of the Star, Pep Guardiola has made Chelsea’s Eden Hazard his number one summer target and ‘is confident’ of luring the 27-year-old to the Etihad Stadium after this season’s successes.

A £100million fee and wages of £300,000-a-week are mooted for Hazard, who has two years left on his Chelsea contract. Real Madrid are known to have an interest in the Belgian and should they become resigned to losing him, Chelsea would undoubtedly prefer to sell him abroad than to a domestic rival.

The acquisition of Hazard would make the City attack even more formidable and send a message to the Premier League that City mean business as they look to retain their title next year – something that hasn’t happened since Manchester United threepeated from 2006/07 to 2008/09.

It seems like a hard-to-believe story, but Hazard has been mentioned by credible sources as a dream signing for Pep Guardiola. Turning that dream into a reality may prove impossible though…
