Manchester City starlet Aleix García heading to Spain for new loan move – City Watch
Manchester City and Spain under-21 midfielder Aleix García will begin pre-season with Girona FC tomorrow and spend a second season on loan from the Premier League champions.
The former Villarreal youngster was one of five dispatched to the City Football Group partner club last summer, and was the second most successful behind Pablo Maffeo, but struggled for consistent game time.
Aleix made nineteen appearances in all competitions for Girona and with a new coach, Eusebio Sacristán, now in place and several changes to the squad, will be looking to play more regularly in the 2018-19 campaign.
García won his first cap for Spain’s under-21 side in May, a sign of how highly thought he is by club and country. He has already appeared nine times for the Manchester City first team, with eight appearances in Manuel Pellegrini’s final campaign in charge and just the solitary appearance in Pep Guardiola’s debut season.
The hope will be that 21-year-old García can make a bigger impact at the Montilivi this coming season, much like Maffeo’s which led to VfB Stuttgart splashing out a club-record fee for the right-back.
