Manchester City star named in L’Equipe World Cup Best XI, two former Blues in Worst XI – City Watch
Kevin De Bruyne has been included in the Best XI of the recently concluded World Cup by French newspaper L’Equipe, known for their strict player ratings.
The Belgian was impressive for his country, who eventually beat England to seal third place, and was named in an all-star midfield three with Paul Pogba and and Luka Modric.
A product of City’s academy, Kieran Trippier, was named the best right-back at the tournament, while Kylian Mbappé, Eden Hazard and Edinson Cavani made up the front three. John Stones was perhaps unlucky to miss out in defence, with Rafael Varane and Thiago Silva the centre-back pairing.
Several City stars underperformed at the World Cup, but none enough that they were named in the World Cup Worst XI by L’Equipe. However, two former Blues, Kelechi Iheanacho and Willy Caballero, had the indignity of being included.
