Manchester City respond to Lyon’s attempt to sign midfielder Yangel Herrera – City Watch
Lyon have failed in an effort to prise promising Venezuelan midfielder Yangel Herrera from Manchester City after recently making him a priority target for the transfer window.
Herrera is currently on loan at New York City FC and is making a huge impression for Patrick Vieira’s side, which has alerted European clubs and quite possibly has Pep Guardiola considering the 19-year-old for his long-term plans.
And for that reason, Lyon have been knocked back in their attempt to sign Yangel, who joined the Blues last summer from City Football Group member Atlético Venezuela for £1.7million in January.
“Unfortunately they (Man City/NYCFC) are not going to let him join us right now,” Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told Canal+ Sport. “We will have to look elsewhere.”
The wording of his comment suggests the Ligue 1 side may try again for Herrera in future, and if his impressive performances in MLS continue more and more clubs from Europe will be lining up for him.
