Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea monitor ‘frustrated’ Arsenal midfielder as contract saga continues – City Watch
It isn’t just Alexis Sanchez who Arsenal have entering the final year of his contract, with England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain another facing an uncertain future according to John Cross of the Mirror.
Ox’s contract renewal was expected to be a formality after recent reports saying he would sign on the dotted line soon, but today’s report puts that in doubt, with the Mirror claiming that the 23-year-old has been left ‘deeply frustrated’ by Arsenal’s lack of action in opening talks.
The versatile midfielder, who also played as a right wing-back last season for the Gunners, is subject to interest from Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, all of whom would like to exploit the contract situation and add a home-grown talent to their ranks.
Pep Guardiola is known to be an Oxlade-Chamberlain admirer and as The Times’ Henry Winter told City Watch last year, the City boss could have a Joshua Kimmich-like effect on the Englishman’s career.
Having failed to tie down City target Alexis Sanchez and German playmaker Mesut Özil so far this summer, Arsenal fans will be very frustrated if Oxlade-Chamberlain is another who is allowed to leave below his true value or even for free next summer. Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Wojciech Szczesny are also entering their final 12 months, with the Polish goalkeeper thought to be close to joining Juventus.
