Manchester City defender poised to quit the club despite reports of new contract – City Watch
Manchester City defender Tosin Adarabioyo, one of the club’s hottest prospects, is set to leave the club on June 30th after failing to agree a new contract at the club, according to reports in The Times.
Adarabioyo, 19, was earmarked by manager Pep Guardiola as a future star, having been a prominent feature of City’s pre-season campaign last summer. However, a promise of significant game-time for the youngster was subsequently not fulfilled, despite City’s well-known defensive problems, leaving Adarabioyo frustrated and stalling on a new deal until he can be certain of spending time on the pitch.
With the deadline closing for a deal to be reached, The Times have reported that there has been no further progression in talks and the central defender is expected to leave the club at the end of his current deal.
This comes after speculation that Guardiola is targeting another centre-back in the transfer window, with Leonardo Bonucci and Virgil Van Dijk understood to be on the shortlist. Although, there have been conflicting reports suggesting that Adarabioyo is still keen to extend his contract and an agreement will be reached.
