Manchester City close to deal for Benjamin Mendy after breakthrough in last 24 hours – report – City Watch
Manchester City are finally close to landing one of Pep Guardiola’s top summer targets, Benjamin Mendy, after a breakthrough in negotiations over the last 24 hours, according to Sky Sports.
It is an often reported line of City being ‘close to’ or ‘on the verge’ of signing the 22-year-old from Monaco, but with an urgent need for new full-backs ahead of the US tour, it appears that Txiki Begiristain and his staff are finally close to getting their man.
Monaco value the French international at £50million, while City have been offering nearer £40million, but the clubs are close to a compromise after further negotiations and a deal could be agreed before the end of the week.
Mendy has been teasing City fans on social media lately, posting a photo of himself in Union Jack shorts while peering into the distance. He also seemed to tell a Juventus fan in Dubai that he was Etihad-bound.
City appear to be getting closer deals for both Mendy and Kyle Walker – Pep’s priority full-back targets in this transfer window – after difficult and drawn out negotiations. If the mooted prices are accurate, the two could cost close to £100million in total, something few City fans will complain about if it means two elite full-backs are added to the squad.
