Manchester City and Barcelona cool interest in right-back after club demand €30m – City Watch
Valencia are hoping to cash in on Portugal international João Cancelo this summer, but risk pricing out suitors including Manchester City and Barcelona.
According to SPORT, the two wealthy clubs are long-term admirers of right-back Cancelo, but their interest has cooled after Valencia demanded €30 million (£26.2 million) for him. Both City and Barça both value Cancelo considerably lower than that amount.
Cancelo’s representative Jorge Mendes – who is also the agent of Bernardo Silva and Ederson Moraes – was in Manchester last week with Valencia staff as they unsuccessfully tried to strike a cut-price deal for City defender Eliaquim Mangala. During that trip, the two parties concluded that Cancelo should be sold in the transfer window to raise funds.
Barcelona have now practically ruled out a move for the player and are instead hoping to recruit Héctor Bellerín from Arsenal. City, meanwhile, are attempting to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham and are confident a deal can be done, despite the North London club playing hardball over a fee.
