Manchester City given title race boost as Liverpool are held by Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham – City Watch

City Watch

Manuel Pellegrini said he was a fan of Manchester City and gave his former club a huge title race boost tonight as his West Ham side held table-toppers Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in London.

The Hammers were good value for a point and could have won after coming back from a blatantly offside Liverpool opener, but a draw is great news for City.

It means a win over Everton on Wednesday night will send City to the top on goal difference, albeit having played a game extra than Liverpool.

Following the defeat to Newcastle, City’s hopes of retaining the title looked grim, but Liverpool have now been held to consecutive draws by Leicester and West Ham, allowing Pep Guardiola’s side back into the title race.

And so with tough games against Everton and Chelsea coming up, if City can make the most of them they will be well-placed to make a title charge.

Here’s how the table looks after tonight’s draw between West Ham and Liverpool.
