Man City, Real Madrid & Barcelona to battle for Kylian Mbappé after he decides to quit Monaco – City Watch
Manchester City are one of three teams left with a realistic chance of signing Monaco star Kylian Mbappé, who has told Monaco that he wants to leave the club this summer. One of the reasons for his decision is that he has been ‘deeply affected’ by Monaco’s sale of star players, particularly his close friend Benjamin Mendy to City.
After independent sources broke the news yesterday, the L’Equipe newspaper has backed up the huge story that he 18-year-old has decided to quit the principality club, with European giants lining up for his signature.
One of them is Paris Saint-Germain, who despite their imminent world record deal for Neymar, have maintained contacts with Mbappé’s entourage. However, Monaco’s refusal to sell to their Ligue 1 rival and potential difficulties in funding such a deal after signing Neymar give the Parisiens a very slim chance.
It is Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid who are named by L’Equipe as the three clubs on the lookout for Mbappé and in with a realistic chance of signing the teenage sensation.
City are struggling to convince Arsenal to sell Alexis Sanchez to them and could try to acquire Mbappé, although they would want the €180million asking price to be dropped. As would Real Madrid, who are interested in recruiting Mbappé as their latest Galactico.
Finally, after being shaken by the departure of Neymar to PSG, which should be official by the end of the week, Barcelona want an elite talent to step in for him, and a deal for Mbappé would certainly help fans get over the loss of Neymar.
A report from Onda Cero in Spain last night stated that both Madrid and Barcelona are hot on the trail of Borussia Dortmund talent Ousmane Dembelé, a player City are also said to have some interest in. He could be a possible alternate for all three clubs to the more expensive Mbappé, but even Dembelé could cost up to €100million in what is becoming an increasingly expensive market.
