Man City and Man United eye Ecuadorian goal machine after scouting U-20 Copa Libertadores – report – City Watch
The Manchester giants are often linked with the same players and that extends all the way to the world of youth football. This time, Manchester City and Manchester United are showing interest in a wonderkid who has scored 7 goals in 3 games at the U-20 Copa Libertadores.
Brazilian outlet Globoesporte confirms that Man City and an United have a significant scouting presence at the South American youth competition, as they look to identify some of tomorrow’s stars.
One name is specifically mentioned as having caught the eye of the Mancunian clubs, that being Stiven Plaza, who plays for Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.
The young striker has drawn attention because of his impressive physique and he has been scoring freely. And speaking to the press, he has admitted there is interest from Europe in him.
“Yes, some clubs in Europe have come to me. But I’m calm. I have three years on my contract with Independiente,” said Plaza.
His comments are unlikely to deter City and United if either of them decide to make a bid for the teenager.
City are particularly active in the South American scene nowadays, with former Barcelona man Joan Patsy in charge of City Football Group’s South American recruitment.
The CFG created a hub on the continent almost a year ago when they acquired Uruguay’s Club Atlético Torque, who have since won promotion to the country’s top flight.
