Once again, Manchester City were very active in the market this summer. And once again, the outgoings far outnumbered the incomings, with City having a stockpile of talents on the books and many of them needing new homes.

While the known signings amounted to twelve, a modest number considering that included youngsters, over SIXTY players left in the summer transfer window, almost thirty of them on loan.

The most expensive signing of the summer was Benjamin Mendy, acquired from Monaco for an initial £49.4million, which could rise with add-ons.

Overall, City spent around £220million, a huge outlay but even less than they anticipated, with the summer budget thought to have been around £300million. Failed deals for Alexis Sanchez and Jonny Evans yesterday mean the club could go again in January, with the Arsenal star possibly in line for a January move.

On the topic of outgoings, City brought in more revenue than they often have in recent years. Due to undisclosed fees and some unknown loan fees, the total amount is unclear, but at least £94million arrived in the club coffers, meaning the net spend was probably in the region of £126million. The wage bill was also reduced with many high-earning veterans sold or coming to the end of their contracts.
