Eliaquim Mangala’s future in doubt as Valencia fail to convince Man City to lower fee – City Watch
Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala’s proposed move to Valencia has hit a stumbling block and chances of him making the switch are increasingly dwindling, according to Marca.
Valencia chiefs flew into Manchester earlier this week to hold talks with City officials in hopes of renegotiating a deal cheaper than the option to buy clause inserted in Mangala’s loan deal. However, Marca reports that the two parties failed to reach an agreement and Valencia are losing hope of securing the Frenchman on a permanent deal.
In addition to issues between the two clubs, Mangala himself has doubts about joining the La Liga outfit for a prolonged period of time, according to Superdeporte, with concerns about the ambitions of the club as well as the financial side of things.
Mangala is still expected to leave City in the coming transfer window, having failed to impressed manager Pep Guardiola last summer, but his destination is unknown. The Manchester Evening News reported that Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is interested in the 26-year-old but does not know whether owner Mike Ashley will provide him with funds to compete with other potential suitors.
