Bordeaux considering rivaling Liverpool for outgoing Manchester City defender – City Watch

City Watch

The demand for departing Manchester City left-back Gaël Clichy is steadily rising with a return to his homeland emerging as a possibility after 14 years in England.

France Football reports that Ligue 1 side Bordeaux are stepping up their interest in the experienced 31-year-old as they search for a left-back. He is one of two defenders targeted by Les Girondins along with Paul Baysse, 29, of Nice.

Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon have also shown tentative interest in Clichy, while if he prefers to stay in England, it has been reported that Liverpool have offered the full-back a two-year contract with the option for a third. Liverpool are just 5/6 at the bookies to sign Clichy.

Clichy was also linked with Crystal Palace along with another departing French defender, Bacary Sagna, and it appears he has several options to ponder before deciding his next move.

City hope to sign Clichy’s replacement and compatriot, Benjamin Mendy, in the near future after reportedly seeing off interest from Liverpool and others to capture the 22-year-old.
