Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva set for Manchester City pre-season returns in July – City Watch
Apparently following in the footsteps of John Stones, former Monaco duo Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva look set to have shortened summer breaks and join up with Manchester City’s pre-season tour of America.
Players can have up to a month off after their footballing committments for the season end, but Bernardo and especially Mendy, who was with the France squad that won the World Cup, will join City’s U.S. tour in its latter stages, tier 1 source Martin Blackburn of The Sun reports.
Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy have indicated they plan to join up with #Mcfc squad later in the US tour. Won’t be involved in Chicago though.

City play Borussia Dortmund (July 21), Liverpool (July 26) and Bayern Munich (July 29) while in the States, and the two are expected to arrive after the Blues leave Chicago, so likely between the 26th and 29th. For Mendy, that would mean less than half a month off – although he only played a handful of games for club and country last season due to injury and will be quite fresh.
Other City players will join up for pre-season at staggered times following their World Cup committments, with those like Ilkay Gündogan, Sergio Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi, and David Silva, whose nations were eliminated fairly early in the competition, likely to return before than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany, Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker.
Stones signalled his intent to return quicker than he has to and plans to be involved in City’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea at Wembley in early August.
