Dutch youth international Rodney Kongolo set to leave Manchester City after four years – City Watch

SC Heerenveen are set to make their third signing of the summer by landing Holland under-20 midfielder Rodney Kongolo from Manchester City.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who arrived from the Feyenoord academy in March 2014, is expected to sign a permanent deal with the Eredivisie club, although City may include a buy-back clause as is becoming the standard with departing prospects.

Kongolo, the brother of Huddersfield defender Terence Kongolo, has only 12 months left on his Manchester City contract and with a breakthrough to Pep Guardiola’s first team looking unlikely, he will continue his career in the Dutch top-flight.

The Dutchman spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers in League One, making 35 league appearances.

Kongolo is expected to sign his contract at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on Tuesday and an announcement should follow soon.
