Young Manchester City defender cuts short loan spell for personal reasons – City Watch

City Watch

22-year-old Manchester City defender Shay Facey is back in Manchester after cutting short a loan spell to Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen recently.

Facey only made three league appearances between September and March for the Dutch side, and quietly returned to Manchester in March for “personal circumstances” in March. No further details are known.

A former England U16, U17, U19 and U20 international, Facey made his last appearance for Heerenveen on January 22, playing six minutes against reigning champions PSV Eindhoven.

Before this unproductive spell at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, Facey enjoyed a solid year on loan at City Football Group partner club, New York City FC, making 24 appearances, and also had a spell at Rotherham, making 5 appearances.

Facey’s contract is due to expire in 2018 and now both the player and City chiefs must decide what the best move is for him.
