Sergio Aguero takes dig at Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli after Croatia thrashing – City Watch

Sergio Aguero may have talked himself on to the bench after taking a dig at the increasingly unpopular Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli tonight.

Argentina were outplayed and thrashed 3-0 by Croatia on a miserable night for La Albiceleste, leading to coach Sampaoli having objects thrown at him by irate fans at full-time.

Aguero, who has scored Argentina’s only goal of the tournament so far, was substituted off after 54 minutes and replaced by Gonzalo Higuain, who could not find the net.

After the match, Sampaoli said the players “players did not adapt” and “the project failed”.

When Kun was asked about this by the press, he momentarily appeared mortified and hit back at Sampaoli, saying: “Let him say what he wants.”

Argentina are now staring group stage elimination in the face and need one of several difficult permutations to happen for them to advance to the next stage. They face Nigeria on Tuesday when their World Cup fate will be decided.

While an early exit would make them unhappy, it would mean both Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi returning home earlier and subsequently reporting to Manchester City’s pre-season training earlier than most would have expected.
