Pep Guardiola’s comments could renew Manchester City’s interest in Leicester star – City Watch

Pep Guardiola reiterated that he is a fan of Riyad Mahrez after Manchester City’s victory over Leicester City at the Etihad last weekend in which the Algerian featured.

According to Nabil Djellit of France Football, Pep remarked on the actions of Mahrez going one-on-one against Clichy;

“He faced Gael, and last season he faced all the left-backs of the Premier League. He’s an exceptional player. This is why it is so important to have the ball as much as possible. The less Mahrez has the ball, [the quieter they are].”

These comments could open the door to renewed interest from City who were very interested in signing him last summer but instead opted for Leroy Sané. It is believed that the Algerian winger would cost City around €35 million (£30 mullion) in a potential move that could see him replace outgoing Nolito if recent reports, linking him with a move away from the club after one season, are to be believed.

Last season’s PFA Player of the Year will surely be forgiven for not being able to replicate the same form in a side that was flirting with relegation at the mid-point in the season. In a side that has the highest possession stats in the league the 26-year-old would enjoy much more of the ball at City and could perhaps provide a solution to the Blues habit of missing chances.
