Pep Guardiola decides to keep club captain Vincent Kompany at Manchester City – City Watch
Vincent Kompany will remain a Manchester City player next season after much speculation surrounding his future throughout another injury plagued season.
The inspirational club captain returned from his latest injury setback five weeks ago and has been impressive, so much so that Guardiola, who had previously been willing to listen to offers for the 31-year-old, has decided to give him a reprieve.
The Telegraph reports that Guardiola sees in Kompany a level of leadership that no other player at the club has been able to provide, and that important quality is essential in lifting his team-mates.
Despite the good news and the news that Tosin Adarabioyo is staying at the club, Guardiola is still in the market for another centre-back, and the Telegraph reveals that Leonardo Bonucci is still his number one target. However, a deal could be difficult with Juventus wanting over £50 million – a world record for a centre-back – for a player who turned 30 at the beginning of May.
Guardiola is also in the market for two full-backs and a goalkeeper as he looks to strengthen a back-line that has been unconvincing at times this season.
