Manchester City star wins race against time to make 2018 World Cup squad – City Watch
Benjamin Mendy has won his race to make France’s World Cup squad and will be on the plane to Russia, RMC Sport reports.
The Manchester City left-back has missed most of the injury through injury and his comeback has been handled carefully by Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff, with minutes here and there.
Despite a lack of game time at club level this season, Didier Deschamps will include the left-back in his squad with Lucas Hernandez or Lucas Digne expected to join him as the second left-back pick.
For Mendy, it will come as a relief as his World Cup dream had been in danger after he was ruled out with a ruptured ACL earlier in the season, and it took months of recovery and rehab to get him back on the pitch.
Mendy has made three appearances since returning, playing a total of 62 minutes, and will be hoping to add to that on Sunday when the Blues finish their double-winning season against Southampton.
