Manchester City ‘show interest’ in former Manchester United keeper – and what it could mean – City Watch

Manchester City have ‘shown interest’ in former Manchester United and England goalkeeper Ben Foster this summer, the reliable John Percy of the Telegraph reports with Sam Lee of Goal also backing up the information.

Foster, 35, and West Brom teammate Craig Dawson have refused to fly out to Portugal with the Baggies in frustration at the relegated club’s hardline stance over selling them, with both expected to be punished.

And according to the report, Man City along with Watford have expressed interest in Foster this summer.

Any move for Foster could mean Claudio Bravo leaving the club, but there has been no indication yet this summer that the Chilean has decided to leave, or that the club want him to leave.

If Foster did replace Bravo however, it would free a foreign spot in the squad with him being classified a homegrown player.

A Premier League veteran, Foster played for neighbours Manchester United from 2005 until 2010 and has been capped eight times by the England national team. During his time at Old Trafford, he won the League Cup twice, but was often loaned out and made only 23 appearances for the Reds. That led to him joining Birmingham in a £4million move in 2010 as a replacement for Joe Hart when he returned to Manchester City from a loan spell.

The Blues could ship two goalkeepers out this summer and are in negotiations with Southampton to sell England under-21 international Angus Gunn for £15million.

Another of the club’s highly-rated young stoppers, Aro Muric, is heading to NAC Breda for pre-season training ahead of a potential loan move.
