Manchester City interested in signing former Manchester United defender – City Watch

City Watch

Manchester City are interested in West Bromwich Albion centre-half Jonny Evans.

Didn’t think I’d be writing that one when I woke up this morning.

The story is being reported by Sky Sports News, who cite their infamous ‘Sky Sources’ as the source of their information.

Evans, 29, was on the books of fierce rivals Manchester United between 2006 and 2015, and City fans will recall his red card in the famous 6-1 win at Old Trafford in October 2011.

Whether there is any truth behind the story remains to be seen, but it is fair to say that no-one saw this coming.

City are in need of home-grown players and cover at centre-half, but whether Evans is of the required standard is most certainly up for debate. It could even be argued that Eliaquim Mangala would offer just as much as Evans.

Evans, a Northern Ireland international, started thirty matches for Tony Pulis’ side last season.

City have also been linked with Ben Gibson in recent weeks as they continue their search for defensive reinforcements.
