Manchester City hope to have Dani Alves and Kyle Walker signed next week – report – City Watch
Manchester City are just over a week away from flying to the United States for their pre-season tour and have a problem – the only senior full-back, left or right sided, on the books is Aleksandar Kolarov after Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gaël Clichy were released recently.
That issue will begin to be solved next week with the Daily Mail reporting that Dani Alves will fly into England to complete his free transfer move to the Etihad Stadium after his holidays, much of which he spent with Brazil and former Barcelona teammate Neymar.
Alves will fill one of the two vacant right-back spots, with complicated negotiations for Tottenham’s Kyle Walker continuing in the hope that the England international will also join. The Daily Mail claims that City will try to move that deal forward next week so that 27-year-old Walker can also be on the plane to the USA.
On the other flank, talks continue with Monaco for Benjamin Mendy, who has been dropping hints on his social media accounts, and that one seems to be a question of when rather than if.
Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand is another left-back target, but with Kolarov still able to play there – despite Guardiola’s preference to use him as a central defender – he is more of a bonus than urgent priority and that could be a later deal should City pursue him.
