Manchester City have €35million bid rejected for Barcelona defender – City Watch

Manchester City have had a €35m bid rejected for Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto in recent days according to Spanish site Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan club are determined to keep hold of Roberto, who was largely deployed as a right-back over the course of last season but is recognized for his versatility on the pitch, being able to play at centre-back and in midfield.

This is likely one of the reasons that City were interested in the Spaniards services but with the Blues unwilling to pay any more than €35m, they have now ended their interest in the player altogether.

Recent reports surrounding Manchester City have suggested that the Blues are in the market for another centre-back this summer but there is very little indication as to who that could be. With City looking very likely to sign Dani Alves in the coming days and chasing Spurs man Kyle Walker too for the right-back position, it possible that Roberto could have been an alternate option for Walker, with City struggling to agree a fee with Tottenham for him.
