Karl Anderson, 29, of Manchester has been sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for the racially aggravated assault of Raheem Sterling on Saturday.

Anderson is reported to have smiled after he was sentenced to 16 weeks in custody and told he will have to pay compensation costs of £100 with a victim surcharge of £115.

The man racially abused Raheem Sterling at City’s training facilities on Saturday, and when the Manchester City star got out of his car to ask the reasons, Anderson kicked him in the leg.

The court heard that Sterling received light bruising to his leg and Anderson apologised to Raheem for his actions. Anderson had said to Sterling, “I hope your mother and child wake up dead in the morning.”

Anderson’s solicitor said Anderson had pulled his van up next to Sterling’s car because his girlfriend wanted an autograph.
