Interest from Premier League and Bundesliga as Man City plan to loan Tosin Adarabioyo out – City Watch

Tosin Adarabioyo’s contract extension on Tuesday evening, worth £40,000 a week, put an end to the rumours of a permanent move away from Manchester City in what is turning out to be the biggest transfer window in recent history for the Blues.

In the last 12 months, both Everton and Celtic have been linked with the young centre-back, who despite mostly limited opportunities in the first team this season played the full 90 minutes against Celtic in December’s 1-1 home draw. Today, the Daily Mail have asserted that this coming season City will look to loan out the 19-year-old to gain ‘vital first-team experience’.

Adarabioyo, the Mail reports, wanted to stay at the Etihad only if his road to the first team was guaranteed, presumably having seen several young players fail to make the grade at the club. However, City ‘see Adarabioyo as a potential future captain’ and therefore sought to tie him down. His previous contract was scheduled to end this month, meaning teams could have signed the rising star up for a tribunal fee, yet Tosin clearly impressed the staff at City enough to offer him a four-year deal.

The Mail detail that although a Premier League loan would suit City, Adarabioyo himself is also open to a loan to a top European league, days after fellow England youngster Reece Oxford agreed a loan deal with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach. The mooted loan deal will only be for one season, and Adarabioyo will return to City’s first team fray for the 2018-19 campaign, signalling that Pep Guardiola believes Adarabioyo needs more time to develop.

Though in the past few years hotly tipped defenders like Karim Rekik and Jason Denayer haven’t been near the first team, let alone hold down a position in it, City’s extension of Tosin’s contract means that even in the case of him not living up to his potential, he will garnish a fee for the club. But given Tosin’s 15-year stay at the club, hopefully a loan deal will be able to give him the vital experience he needs to be a success at the club, and we will watch his progress with baited breath wherever he ends up next season.
