Huddersfield Town consider deadline day move for Manchester City winger – City Watch

Huddersfield Town are considering a deadline day loan swoop for Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts, Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports.

Roberts, 21, was part of City’s pre-season tour of the United States, but with a wealth of high-quality wingers at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, the former Fulham man appears to have little chance of making a breakthrough any time soon.

Leicester City were interested in signing the England youth international as part of the Riyad Mahrez deal, but cooled their interest and Mahrez moved to City in a straight cash deal.

However, with the clock ticking before tonight’s transfer deadline, Huddersfield boss David Wagner is considering whether to make a loan move for Roberts, who has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons on loan at Celtic in Scotland.

Should no deal materialise today, Roberts could still leave City after the transfer deadline, permanently or on loan to any foreign club with an active transfer window or on loan to a Championship club until 31 August.

Celtic are rumoured to be keen on re-signing Roberts once again and Brendan Rodgers may be tempted to make a move if no Premier League team steps forward today.
