FC Twente target another Manchester City striker to replace Enes Ünal next season – City Watch
FC Twente are now facing life without their top scorer of the 2016-17 season, Enes Ünal, who has joined Villarreal from Manchester City in a £12 million deal.
The Turk is an example of what a productive loan move can do for the development of a young player, and Twente have cast their eyes on the youth ranks of Man City in search of an attacker who could replace either or both Ünal and another City loanee, Bersant Celina.
Versatile 20-year-old attacker, Thierry Ambrose, is a target for the Eredivisie side next season according to Tubantia, as the club seek to restock a squad that will be losing several loan players.
Ambrose has been considered one of City’s best young talents but has had to come back from a serious injury and is now looking to make the next step in his fledgling career with a loan spell away.
This raises an interesting dilemma for City, because Ambrose is one of a group of starlets who have been lined up to join City Football Group partner club NAC Breda on loan. Along with four other City prospects, he attended an NAC game in April and was given a tour of the facilities.
NAC have won promotion to the Eredivisie, but City have also developed a healthy working relationship with Twente, dispatching a number of players on loan to the De Grolsch Veste. Though Twente are a higher profile club than NAC, keeping NAC in the Dutch top-flight may have better long-term benefits for the Blues.
FC Twente technical director, Jan van Halst, said, “We always have good contacts with Manchester City,” and will hope if there is a battle between Twente and NAC for the services of Ambrose, his side will get the nod from City chiefs.
