Dutch side FC Groningen sign Manchester City youngster on two-year loan deal – City Watch

FC Groningen have announced an agreement to sign Mexico under-20 international Uriel Antuna from Manchester City on a two-year loan deal.

Antuna’s former club Santos Laguna announced in July that they had sold the 19-year-old midfielder to the City Football Group. With third-party ownership now banned from football, it soon became clear that he had been bought by Manchester City.

And he’ll now continue his footballing develop in Holland’s Eredivisie with Groningen, becoming the latest of many City youngsters to head to a league famed for its development of young players.

The club’s technical manager Peter Jeltema said, “With Uriel Antuna, we add speed and depth to our attacking line. Signing him was one of the wishes we had and we are pleased that this has been done.”

Antuna is currently in Mexico awaiting the necessary papers, with Groningen hopeful that the Mexican will be able to travel to the Netherlands over the course of the next week to complete the final details of his contract and undergo a medical. After that, he will be presented at the Noordlease Stadion.
