David Silva set to extend glorious Manchester City stay with contract extension – report – City Watch
David Silva is ready to play well into his 30s at Manchester City by signing a new two-year contract extension, according to an exclusive report by The Sun.
Silva, 31, is already under contract until 2019 but believes he can thrive well into his 30s in the deeper attacking role that Pep Guardiola has deployed him in. And the arrival of Bernardo Silva from Monaco will decrease the reliance on El Mago from next season.
The Spain international is known to be a fitness fanatic and looks after himself, and as last season showed he is still one of the Premier League’s best midfielders at the age of 31.
And Merlin, as he is affectionately nicknamed, is reported to have spoken to his representatives about opening talks with Man City chiefs about adding another two years on his current deal, which could see his stay at the Etihad pass a full decade.
