Bayern Munich rule out selling defensive specialist to Manchester City – report – City Watch

City Watch

Bayern Munich have completely ruled out the idea of selling defensive specialist Javi Martinez to Manchester City this summer, BILD reports today.

The Bavarians were forced into a denial after a rumour surfaced on Saturday that the 28-year-old Spain international was heading to the Etihad Stadium for a reunion with ex-boss Pep Guardiola.

The rumour blew up when a fake BT Sport journalist named Anthony Harris tweeted that both Martinez and Dani Alves were booked in for medicals on the same day this week.

Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has made it clear that the Bundesliga champions will not even consider the sale of Martinez to City this summer, let alone negotiate a deal.

Martinez, who joined Bayern five years ago in a €40million deal from Athletic Bilbao, remains a key part of their plans under Carlo Ancelotti, who plans to rotate the Spaniard with Jérôme Boateng and Mats Hummels in the Bayern defence next season.
