Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta responds to stories linking him with move to Manchester City – City Watch

Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has responded to stories from England in May that he was offered the chance to join Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

The report, which originated at Yahoo! Sport, went as far to claim that Iniesta was seriously considering City’s proposal. But the 34-year-old told Cadena COPE in Spain that there was no proposal to even consider.

“Guardiola never called me. There were zero conversations. I was leaving Barça to leave Europe, so this information made no sense,” Iniesta told El Partidazo de COPE.

At the time, Iniesta was being mooted as a replacement for Mikel Arteta, who was expected to take over at Arsenal before the Gunners decided on Unai Emery.

With Domènec Torrent leaving Pep’s coaching staff to take over at New York City FC, a vacancy has appeared, but it clearly won’t be filled by Andres Iniesta, who is set to continue his illustrious career outside of Europe.
